Black To Front
Black to Front is a landmark initiative byChannel 4 created to foreground Black talent in front of and behind the camera, reimagining representation within British television.
Commissioned byRenaissance Studios, this project focused on set design for behind-the-scenes content documenting the presenters’ and guests’ experience within the wider Black to Front initiative.
The design explored opulence and Black excellence as a visual language to express presence, identity, and cultural pride within broadcast environments. It was guided by Solange Knowles’ statement: “The work I do will always be through the lens of a Black woman. I think we’re the most popping.” This became a grounding lens for shaping atmosphere, tone, and spatial narrative.
The work considers how a curated environment holds identity, visibility, and cultural expression within the frame of mainstream media.
